Northern Regional Holds Ohio County Bookings

Ohio County uses West Virginia's regional jail system. The facility opened in 1994 and serves Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Ohio, Tyler, and Wetzel counties. This is why an arrest made in Wheeling may appear at a facility in Marshall County rather than in a sheriff-branded Ohio County jail.

The facility includes jail detainees and state inmates under one roof without commingling them. A published audit describes a design capacity of 608 jail detainees, plus multiple-occupancy and segregation units. Those figures describe the facility, not the number of Ohio County bookings on a given day. Inside an Ohio County Arrest Record

An Ohio County arrest record is custody centered. Intake ties the legal commitment order to a person, records the alleged charges and bond information supplied at that stage, and tracks movement through custody. West Virginia law limits law-enforcement social-media sharing of booking photos for certain minor offenses, subject to exceptions. It does not seal every booking image. No photo should be used as proof that a booking did or did not occur. Juvenile identities remain confidential.

Ohio County Custody Routes Differ

The Ohio County Correctional Center and Jail at 1501 Eoff Street in Wheeling is not the main new-booking jail. The former county jail was built in 1974, stopped county-jail operations when Northern Regional opened in 1994, and entered state lease use in 1998. WVDCR reports that the site now houses male technical parole violators and lists 304-238-1007 and 304-238-1008 as contact numbers.
